Production of Oxycodone

logoThe DEA approves the amount of Oxycodone that can be produced each year. In 1997 the amount was 8.3 tons;in 2011 the amount was 105 tons;in 2012 114 tons 1,747% increase over the amount produced in 1996 the year Oxycontin first came to market. We are trying to get a conference call and meeting with the DEA to reduce the amount of pills produced. The latest information we have is that the DEA is afraid of being sued by chronic pain users if they cannot get their pills. The language in a Bill has to be changed and they are waiting for another report that addresses the amount needed before making any changes to the production amount. The report should be concluded in about 6 months. The DEA needs to hear from people that have suffered from this drug being kept on the market. They and National Legislators are hearing pleanty from the people in chronic pain. Please call 202 307-7165 and tell them your story ask to speak to Dep Assistant Joseph Rannazzisi  *Updated number to call* this is drug diversion office.  Senator Feinstein’s (CA) , Chairman of the Senate Caucus on International Narcotics Control should also be called:  202-224-3841.

Spoke to Senator Manchin’s office today.  They are investigating the FDA due to their excessive approval of “new pain killer drugs to market despite this environment of abuse and death”. They are in the process of reviewing 2000 pages of documents regarding the “Pay to Play” investigation. And we have set up a meeting with them when we are in Washington DC.  A conflict of interest has been noted.   Stay tuned
